Startups.
I have always loved the startup world, but more then that, it's the coming up with new ideas, building them, the challenges, and seeing them come into fruition. It's what got me into the web development world over 13 years ago. Below are the two major ones I have worked on and also a side project for fun. A lot of the information is repeated from the projects page.
GearBasin
- Website (Beta):
- GearBasin.com
Intro: GearBasin is a start up I joined with some friends about 10 years ago. It is looking to be the cross roads of adventure by bringing the outdoor community together in one spot. You will be able to find gear, people, events, groups, and posts for all of your adventures. It is a massive site and is almost ready for full public launch. It is built on Ruby on Rails and uses many large-scale technologies. I'm the sole developer on this project and have built all aspects of this site. From design, UX, to code.

Kaljaa
- Website(suspended indefinitely):
- Currently down since it has been suspended
Intro: Kaljaa was a start-up a couple of programmers and I started over 10 years ago. It was a social network for the brewery industry which supported c2c, b2c, and b2b interactions. This site was also built on the Ruby on Rails framework. We had a very successful and well received beta trial. During that trial, Kaljaa had 40-50 breweries, and a large number of users join that included people from all parts of the industry such as beer drinkers, breweries, beer distributors, restaurants, and critics. I started a rewrite of the entire site about 7 years ago. We had to place it on hold due to some outside factors.

Are the Mountains Out
- Website (Fun side project):
- AretheMountainsOut.com
Intro: Living in Seattle, you always wonder if Rainier is out and what the weather is like in the surrounding mountains. I decided to solve that problem and build a little weather website that concentrates on outdoor centric cities and the surrounding areas that people like to venture too. Check out some of the cities I have curated - Seattle, Denver, Vancouver.

Features Built:
These features have been built from the ground up and customized for the site via Rails, JavaScript, PostgreSQL, and other programming languages that were needed.

- Built on Ruby on Rails framework, PostgreSQL database, Heroku servers, SideKiq workers, and AWS image managment.
- Full stack development with design, code, servers, etc.
- Built a SideKiq worker system that grabs information from multiple weather API's and updates a database that the site uses. This cuts down on API calls which in turn cuts down on money.
- Built a SideKiq worker system that clears out old data and keeps the projects data manageable.
